Fuqua-directed reboot eyes Moretz for co-lead.
Mike Fleming over at Deadline is hearing that ‘Kick-Ass’ star Chloë Moretz has been offered the female lead opposite Denzel Washington in ‘The Equalizer.’
To be directed by Antoine Fuqua (‘Olympus Down,’ ‘Training Day’), the film is a reboot of the 1980s TV series following the adventures of Robert McCall, the shadowy monastic figure who hates injustice and devotes himself to helping people who are being victimized.
Moretz’s character – a young prostitute named Terri – was originally written with a twentysomething in mind, but the sixteen year-old actress’ “chemistry reading” with Washington impressed the creative team. The film’s writers will rework the script to reflect Moretz’s age.
In addition to casting, Deadline has received word that Michael Sloan, creator of the TV series, has inked a deal to pen an original novel for Thomas Dunne Books that will continue the adventures of McCall. The book is expected to be on book shelves early 2014.
