Theron to produce and star in revenge tale.
It has been announced that writer/director William Monahan and Charlize Theron are set to team up for a remake Park Chan-wook’s 2005 film ‘Sympathy for Lady Vengeance.’
Theron, who will take the lead in the remake, will also serve as producer with her Denver & Delilah partner Beth Kono, Megan Ellison and Chelsea Barnard of Annapurna Pictures, CJ Entertainment’s Ted Kim, and Monahan.
The final chapter of Park’s acclaimed revenge trilogy, ‘Lady Vengeance’ is the story of a woman who for reasons of her own completes a prison term for a murder she did not commit, re-emerging to punish the killer, and avenge the dead.
In a statement, Monahan commented, “This will be very American – and very unexpected. Park is a genius; it’s the Everest of adaptations and I’ve got blood in my teeth to do it.”
