Spinoffs will revolve around the fan-favourites.
Only yesterday we learned that The Walt Disney Co. was working with screenwriters Lawrence Kasdan (‘The Empire Strikes Back,’ ‘Return of the Jedi’) and Simon Kinberg (‘X-Men: Days of Future Past,’ ‘Sherlock Holmes’) to develop stand-alone ‘Star Wars’ films centred around other characters in the universe, now Entertainment Weekly has discovered more details on the spin-offs.
Per EW, the studio is has its eyes on “a young Han Solo saga, focusing on the wisecracking smuggler’s origin story, and a bounty hunter adventure with Boba Fett at the centre of a rogue’s gallery of galactic scum.”
According to the news outlet’s sources at the Mouse House, the Han Solo story would be set in the time period between ‘Revenge of the Sith’ and ‘A New Hope.’ The Boba Fett spin-off, meanwhile, would take place either between ‘A New Hope’ and ‘The Empire Strikes Back,’ or between ‘Empire’ and ‘Return of the Jedi.’ Both films would allow for characters like Darth Vader and Jabba the Hutt to make appearances.
Who will be stepping behind the camera for these films has yet to be decided, but Joe Johnston (‘Captain American: The First Avenger,’ ‘The Rocketeer’), who originally designed the Boba Fett armour, has made no secret of his desire to make a film based on the Mandalorian warrior and bounty hunter.
