‘Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang’ writer-director Shane Black has confirmed he will not only direct ‘Iron Man 3’ but will also be writing the script.
Last month it was revealed that writer-director Shane Black was in talks with Marvel to take the directors chair on ‘Iron Man 3’ after Jon Favreau revealed that he will not return to direct the third movie. And while that all sounds good, it was never actually confirmed by Marvel or Disney.
Now, the director himself has confirmed the rumours. Speaking at the Omaha Film Festival, Black was asked about ‘Iron Man 3,’ and he confirmed that he will indeed be writing the screenplay along with directing. Black went on to reveal some other interesting aspects, like how Marvel were not happy with the direction of ‘Iron Man 2,’ and how:
“Iron Man 3 will not be another ‘two men in iron suits fighting each other’ film. Instead, it will be more like a Tom Clancy-thriller, with Iron Man fighting real world villians.”
The plan for Iron Man 3 at the moment is for it to be made after The Avengers and have it focus more on Tony Stark and Iron Man rather than feature other superheros from the Marvel Universe. Marvel’s plans for crossover characters is just to lead up to ‘The Avengers,’ and once that film is released, the plan is to go back to self-containted single-character stories.
Disney plans to release Iron Man 3 on May 3, 2013.
