Producer Lauren Shuler Donner Reveals Some Details On WOLVERINE And DEADPOOL

The “keeper of the keys to the X-Kingdom,” producer Lauren Shuler Donner talks sequels and spinoffs.

This month’s issue of Empire Magazine features an interview with producer Lauren Shuler Donner. The producer, who has been with the X-Men franchise since the beginning, revealed that a treatment for X-Men 4 has been presented to Fox, who loved it, and that the fourth movie leads into the fifth.

Donner, who has produced other movies like ‘Constantine,’ ‘Semi-Pro,’ ‘You’ve Got Mail’ and ‘St. Elmo’s Fire,’ also revealed some details on the ‘The Wolverine.’ It should be noted that the producer’s interview with Empire was prior to the departure of director Darren Aronofsky.

“It will have depth and a dramatic backbone. And yet there’s more action in this one than in any one we’ve ever done. It’s such a good script. We have the great Christopher McQuarrie writing and it’s very true to the Japanese saga. This is Logan on his own…”

She goes on to talk about ‘Deadpool,’ confirming that the movie will be a reboot and it will be the Deadpool we love from the comics, possibly breaking the fourth wall at one point to mock his appearance in ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine.’

“[Deadpool will be] a total reboot. We’re either going to pretend that didn’t happen, or mock it, which he could do. We’re looking for a director, yes. He’s very involved, Ryan. He’s working with the writers on the screenplay and it is as much his as it is ours.”

”You’ll see all of them. You’ll see Wade Wilson, the good-looking Ryan Reynolds! You’ll see Deadpool in his costume and you’ll see the cancer-scarred face. It’s an R script, it’s really irreverent and violent. Right away, we’re out of the X-Men world.”

‘Deadpool’ is currently looking for a director with the producer hoping to have the movie in production by in the next year.

This month issue, which is on shelves right now, has three alternate covers.
