Our money is on The Social Network… How about you?
There were very few surprises in todays Oscar nominations, all our predictions made it into the Best Picture category, though we were rooting for Ben Affleck to get a nod for The Town.
Big congratulations for Irish short THE CRUSH, which was nominated for Live Action Short.
The Crush, tells the story of an 8-year-old schoolboy with a ‘deadly’ infatuation with his teacher. It premiered at the Kerry Film Festival and went on to win Best Irish Short at Foyle last year. The Crush is written and directed by first-timer Michael Creagh, it was produced by Damon Quinn.
Commenting on this success Teresa McGrane, Deputy Chief Executive at Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board said “An Academy Award nomination for a short film is a fantastic achievement. Irish short films have gained outstanding recognition and international profile in recent years with seven short film nominations since 2002. This is an indication of the high level of new talent we have working in the Irish film industry today. “
What are your thoughts on the nominees? Any surprises?
