Vampire vs. werewolves franchise to get sequel/reboot…
Multiple outlets are reporting that Lakeshore Entertainment is moving forward with its plans for a sequel/reboot of the action franchise ‘Underworld,’ hiring Cory Goodman to provide the script.
Released in 2003, the first film in the franchise was directed by Len Wiseman and starred Kate Beckinsale as Selena, a PVC catsuit-clad vampire death dealer entrenched in a war between the vampires and Lycans (werewolves). The film was followed by ‘Underworld: Evolution’ in 2006, a prequel titled ‘Underworld: Rise of the Lycans’ in 2009, and another sequel in 2012.
The 2012 film, ‘Underworld: Awakening,’ was the biggest earner in the franchise, grossing $160 million worldwide, while the franchise as a whole has made $458 million worldwide.
Talk of a reboot/sequel was first reported back in March by Bloody Disgusting, with plans for the next film, tentatively titled ‘Underworld: Next Generation,’ to focus on Selene’s hybrid daughter, Eve.
Goodman’s credits include the Paul Bettany vampire-slaying fantasy flick ‘Priest,’ and ‘The Last Witch Hunter,’ the upcoming supernatural actioner set to star Vin Diesel, Rose Leslie, Elijah Wood, and Michael Caine.
