Up-and-coming actors Marcus Callender (‘Elementary,’ ‘Blue Bloods’) and Jason Mitchell (‘Dragon Eyes,’ ‘Contraband’) have reportedly been cast as Dr. DrE and Eazy-E, respectively, in the long-in-development N.W.A biopic ‘Straight Outta Compton.’

Set to begin filming in the coming months, the film will trace the roots of the California-based group and their rise to fame. The group, active between the years 1986 and 1991, were one of Los Angeles’ successful rap groups and are widely considered one of the most important acts in the history of hip-hop. N.W.A. counted current superstars Ice Cube and Dr. Dre among its members, as well as drug dealer-turned-label founder Eazy-E, plus MC Ren and DJ Yella.

According to reports, Cube’s son O’Shea Jackson, Jr. is set to portray his father.

F. Gary Gray is behind the camera for the film, with Cube producing through his Cube Vision banner, alongside with Dr. Dre, and Eazy E’s widow Tomika Woods.
