Directing duo eyeing supernatural actioner.
Deadline is reporting that Norwegian helmers Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, whose film ‘Kon-Tiki’ was has received an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film, are close to signing to direct the supernatural action/thriller ‘Spectral.’
Based on a treatment by Ian Fried with the most recent draft coming from Jayson Rothwell, ‘Spectral’ has been described as a darker take on ‘Ghostbusters’ with a more serious tone, and follows a special ops group formed to bring down evil ghosts that have taken over Manhattan.
‘Spectral’ would mark Rønning and Sandberg’s English language debut. The plan is for the project to go into production later this year.
You can check out a trailer for Rønning and Sandberg’s Oscar nominated, ‘Kon-Tiki,’ below. The film is a historical drama film about legendary explorer Thor Heyerdal’s epic 4,300 miles crossing of the Pacific on a balsa wood raft in 1947, to prove that this could have been done in pre-Columbian times for South Americans to settle in Polynesia.
