Director moves ahead on her Black Ops movie.
24 Frames reports that Joel Edgerton (‘Animal Kingdom’) has signed up for Kathryn Bigelow’s ‘Kill Bin Laden.’ The movie sees Bigelow re-teaming with Mark Boal, her scribe on 2008s ‘The Hurt Locker.’
Edgerton is the first confirmed actor for the project, and 24 Frames suggests that he passed on the opportunity to work opposite Kristen Stewart in ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ so he could join Bigelow’s film. The actor will play a special operative in the movie, and will be part of an ensemble of male commandos.
Bigelow’s film, which has seen an increase of interest following the breaking news of Bin Laden’s death earlier this week, was originally about a failed mission to capture the Al Qaeda leader, but the script is now being reworked to include the raid on his compound that resulted in his death. The director hopes to have the movie in production by the summer.
Edgerton will next be seen starring opposite Tom Hardy in the mixed martial arts drama ‘Warrior,’ which is set to hit Irish cinemas in September. He will then return to the big screen in October with a prequel to John Carpenter’s 1982 classic ‘The Thing.’
