Government back down on decision to axe Irish Film Board
The National Campaign For The Arts expressed their delight at the Government’s decision not to axe the Irish Film Board, saving in excess of 5000 full-time jobs. The decision to reverse plans to scrap the board was outlined in the revised programme for government as agreed by the Green Party and Fianna Fail on Friday.
Tania Banotti, Executive Director of Theatre Forum, which spearheaded the National Campaign for the Arts, today said “the Film Board is a specialized agency which has built up a unique expertise in the area of film finance and it would have been a terrible shame if it had been axed. We warmly welcome the government’s decision.”
