Idris Elba in Talks to Replace Will Smith in SUICIDE SQUAD Sequel

Idris Elba is reportedly lined up to play Floyd Lawton aka Deadshot in the upcoming ‘Suicide Squad’ sequel, replacing Will Smith who bowed out due to “scheduling conflicts.”

Written and directed by David Ayer, the 2016 ‘Suicide Squad’ was about a group of super villains including Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Deadshot (Will Smith), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) and Diablo (Jay Hernandez), who are recruited to form a defensive task force in order to save the world from the apocalypse. The film was a hit — despite earning negative reviews — managing to take in more than $745 million worldwide.

James Gunn is behind the camera for the sequel, with reports that the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ director will bring a “completely new take on the DC property.”

It is currently unknown who else will be joining the antihero teamup, but Robbie is expected to return as fan favourite Harley Quinn.

Production kicks off in September, with the film pencilled in for a late 2021 release.
