It has been announced that both Anjelica Huston and David Thewlis are to join Milla Jovovich for Russian director Fedor Bonderchuk’s ‘The Winter Queen.’
Based on the internationally bestselling novel by Boris Akunin, ‘The Winter Queen’ tells the story of Erast Fandorin, a intrepid young police detective with the Moscow police who sets out to solve the apparent suicides of several wealthy young men throughout 1886 Russia, but soon lands in the middle of a far-reaching international conspiracy.
‘Resident Evil’ star Jovovich has long been attached to the role of Lady Amalia Bezhetskaya, an enigmatic femme fatale at the centre of the plot who enjoys playing with the emotions and lives of her many wealthy admirers.
Huston will take the role of Lady Astair, a saintly British aristocrat Lady Astair and founder of a string of orphanages which have greatly benefited from the wills of the affluent dead men. While Thewlis will be playing Count Zurov, a suave yet volatile character who is Fandorin’s only protection from the ever more elaborate attempts on his life as he follows the conspiracy from Russia to England and back again.
Filming on the adaptation is set to kick off this spring.
