Weaving reunites with Wachowski Siblings for ambitious adaptation of David Mitchell’s novel.
THR reports that the big screen adaptation of David Mitchell’s epic novel ‘Cloud Atlas,’ which already has Tom Hanks attached to star, has landed the acting talents of Hugo Weaving (‘Oranges and Sunshine’) and Ben Whishaw (‘Perfume: The Story of a Murderer’). Halle Berry (‘Things We Lost in the Fire’), who was previously rumoured for a role, is now confirmed to star.
Mitchell’s novel follows six stories set in a different time and place that become intricately related to each other, including a 19th century American notary, a poor British musician in the 1930s, a journalist in 1970s California, a vanity press publisher in the early 21st century, a rebellious clone in the near future and a primitive Hawaiian tribesman surviving after the apocalypse. Each actor in the film will be playing multiple roles.
The ambitious project sees filmmakers Andy and Lana Wachowski and Tom Tykwer (‘Run Lola Run’) sharing writing and directing duties on the multistrand story.
