‘American Hustle’ scribe in talks to adapt the thriller…
David Fincher has reportedly set his sights on the contemporary spy thriller ‘Red Sparrow,’ with plans for his ‘Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ star Rooney Mara to headline.
Based on book of the same name by Jason Matthews, the thriller follows Russian intelligence officer Dominika Egorova and her struggles to survive in the post-Soviet intelligence jungle.
Ordered against her will to become a “Sparrow,” a trained seductress, Dominika is assigned to operate against Nathaniel Nash, a young CIA officer who handles the Agency’s most important Russian mole. The two soon collide in a duel of wills, tradecraft, and—inevitably—forbidden passion that threatens not just their lives but those of others as well.
20th Century Fox is handling the adaptation, and according to Deadline, the studio has ‘American Hustle’ screenwriter Eric Warren Singer in talks to adapt the screenplay.
The project was first announced back in August of last year with Darren Aronofsky eyeing the director’s chair, however the ‘Noah’ helmer moved away from the adaptation in January.
