3D football is on the way
Cineworld are planning to roll out LIVE 3D coverage of World Cup matches from next year’s tournament in to selected cinemas.
An industry source said: “For all the fans who can’t make it out to South Africa, this will be the next best thing to being there. With the right camera angles it could look as if the players are kicking the ball out into the middle of the audience. It’s an exciting advance in how fans will watch sport.”
The movie chain, who owns 75 multiplexes in the UK and 1 in Dublin is experimenting with the technology and hopes to have it up and running by June 2010. If the World Cup screenings are a success, they will follow up with live F1 motor racing and pop concerts.
Hold onto your 3D glasses, it looks like 3D is about to go to the next level.
