Fantasy epic begins locking in its supporting cast.
Deadline is reporting that Rufus Sewell (‘All Things to All Men,’ ‘Parade’s End,’ ‘Dark City’) has closed a deal to join Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson for Brett Ratner’s big budget fantasy epic ‘Hercules.’
Penned by Ryan Condal and Evan Spiliotopoulos, the film is based on Steve Moore’s graphic novel ‘Hercules: The Thracian Wars’ and follows Hercules in his darkest hours. “After renouncing his mythological origins, Hercules lives in exile and fights as a mercenary for hire alongside his loyal but weary comrades. Hercules and his crew will face their most challenging labour yet when one battle forces the man behind the myth to question everything he once believed, and reconsider the truth behind his own legend.”
THR adds that Norwegian actor Aksel Hennie (‘Headhunters’) is also on board and will play Tydeus, a warrior devoted to Hercules who wields twin axes and is such a madman that he needs to be chained up at night when he sleeps.
Ratner will produce with Barry Levine and Beau Flynn. Peter Berg and Film 44 partner Sarah Aubrey are executive producing.
