Odenkirk will write, star and produce the comedy.
Actor/writer/filmmaker Bob Odenkirk, probably best known to millions for his role as criminal lawyer Saul Goodman in the hit series ‘Breaking Bad,’ is set to write and star in the offbeat comedy ‘Girlfriend’s Day.’
In a city where greeting card writers are celebrated like stars, romance writer Ray (Odenkirk) used to be the king. In trying to recapture the feelings that once made him the greatest, he gets entangled in a web of murder and deceit as writers vie to create the perfect card for a new holiday: Girlfriend’s Day.
‘Best Worst Movie’ director Michael Paul Stephenson is behind the camera and will produce alongside Odenkirk and his Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment partner Marc Provissiero. The filmmakers are aiming for an autumn start.
“After reading ‘Girlfriend’s Day,’ it felt like a discovery,” said Stephenson. “Long before ‘Girlfriend’s Day’ even came into the picture, I had Bob’s name down on a list of actors I’d hope to work with one day. I’ve been a fan of Bob’s for a long time, and feel that his dramatic sensibilities as an actor have been largely untapped. ‘Girlfriend’s Day’ is rooted in themes that I believe in, and I’m honoured to collaborate with Bob in telling a story that’s close to his heart.”
