The Dark Tower to open it’s doors for Javier Bardem?
Last night, it was Christian Bale who was the current frontrunner to be cast as the lead in Ron Howard’s adaption of Stephen King’s ‘The Dark Tower.’ Now, Deadline is reporting that Javier Bardem has officially been offered the lead role of gunslinger Roland Deschain in the movie.
If Bardem signs on, he will appear in all three films and the first season of the television series that will gap the movies. Howard is set to direct the first film, as well as the television series. The second half of the television series will follow the second movie but this one will be a prequel, showing Deschain as a young man. The third and final film would reunite the original cast and conclude the series. At this point, nothing is officially confirmed. What is likely is that the director is only contractually obligated to direct the first film and television series, with an option to return to the director’s chair for the subsequent films if he so desires.
Akiva Goldsman has scripted the first movie and will write the television series along with serving as producer alongside Howard, King and Brian Grazer.
