‘Rock of Ages’ adds Paul Giamatti to it’s cast and “courts” Amy Adams.
Deadline reports that director Adam Shankman is “heavily courting” Amy Adams to sign up for his adaptation of the Broadway stage musical ‘Rock of Ages.’ The adaptation already includes a cast of Tom Cruise, Adam Baldwin, Mary J. Blige, Julianne Hough, and the recently signed Russell Brand.
‘Rock of Ages’ tells the story of star-struck kids, Drew and Sherrie – he, a wanna-be rocker; she, a wanna-be actress – as they struggle through and with the wild-living scene of Los Angeles in the 1980s. The stage show is fueled by the hair metal of the era, including songs by Journey, Night Ranger, Styx, REO Speedwagan, Pat Benatar, and Twisted Sister.
If Adams signs, she would be playing Regina, an uptight journalist who intends to eviscerate “womanizing rocker” Stacee Jax (Cruise) with an expose. A seduction ensues instead. The role had been offered to Anne Hathaway, but her ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ schedule has prevented her participation.
Paul Giamatti has signed on for the musical, playing Paul Gill, the manager of the rock band headed by Cruise’s decadent rock star.
