Smith to offer Washington lead in upcoming drama.
Vulture reports that Denzel Washington is set to be offered the lead in the Will Smith-produced Hurricane Katrina drama ‘The American Can.’
Directed by John Lee Hancock (‘The Blind Side’), the drama follows the real-life story of an ex-Marine named John Keller who orchestrated the rescue of hundreds of his neighbors the American Can apartment complex when the levees broke.
The project was initially announced two years ago with Smith in line to take the lead role, but according to Vulture the actor is now choosing to stay behind the camera.
