Shawn Levy May Exit FANTASTIC VOYAGE Remake

Big budget remake now on shaky ground.

‘Real Steel’ helmer Shawn Levy is reportedly getting anxious and may vacate the director’s chair for the James Cameron-produced 3D remake of ‘Fantastic Voyage.’

According to THR, Levy wants Will Smith, or someone equally A-List to top-line but 20th Century Fox is not pushed on landing a big name, or the massive paycheck that comes with most major stars. The director is set to meet with Smith in the coming weeks to discuss the project, but sources are claiming that if ‘Men in Black’ star doesn’t sign on for the movie, and another mutually-agreeable star can’t be found quickly, the director may very well walk.

Penned by Shane Salerno and Laeta Kalogridis, ‘Fantastic Voyage’ is a big-budget re-imagining of the 1966 sci-fi movie which revolved around a team of scientists who are shrunk to atomic size and sent in a miniature submarine inside the body of a scientist to save his life.

Levy is believed to be already eyeing other projects for his next and that his options include 20th Century Fox’s ‘Frankenstein’ adaptation and Disney’s ‘Sleeping Beauty’ retelling ‘Maleficent.’
