Period drama casts Strong and Farmiga.

Mark Strong (‘Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy,’ ‘Green Lantern’) and Vera Farmiga (‘Source Code,’ ‘Up in the Air’) are set to lead the period drama ‘Closer to the Moon,’ reports Deadline.

Set in communist Romania, the story centers on Max Rosenthal (Strong), a former head of a criminal investigation unit for the Bucharest police force after he and four prominent Jews pulled off a bank robbery while assuring the crowds they were filming a movie. They are tried and sentenced to death because they are Jews, but only after the communist government forces them to re-enact their crime in a propaganda film. Farmiga will play Rosenthal’s lover and mother of his child.

Romanian helmer Nae Caranfil will be taking the director’s chair, with production set to kick off in the autumn.
