Hugh Jackman in Negotiations for Tom Hoopers LES MISERABLES

Wolverine in talks to join Les Miz adaptation.

Variety reports that Hugh Jackman is reportedly in talks to take the role of Jean Valjean in Oscar-winning ‘The King’s Speech’ director Tom Hooper’s big screen musical adaptation of ‘Les Miserables.’

Set against the backdrop of a 19th French rebellion, the story centers on intrepid protagonist Jean Valjean, a Frenchman imprisoned for stealing bread, who is now on the run from a police officer named Javert.

William Nicholson (‘Elizabeth: The Golden Age,’ ‘Gladiator ‘) penned the script based on the long running musical, which itself is adapted from Victor Hugo’s sweeping tale of revolutionary France.

‘Les Miserables’ has had many adaptations over the years; the most recent was Bille August’s 1998 adaptation starring Liam Neeson, Geoffrey Rush, Uma Thurman and Claire Danes.
