David O Russell Circling Disneys MALEFICENT

Director also talks about his departure from ‘Uncharted.’

‘The Fighter’ director David O. Russell is believed to be circling Disney’s live-action fantasy ‘Maleficent.’ As THR reports, Russell is only one of many director’s eyeing the project which Angelina Jolie has long been attached to star as the titular character.

The movie is a re-imagining of ‘Sleeping Beauty,’ with the classic fairy tale, retold from the point of view of the wicked fairy godmother Maleficent.

‘Harry Potter’ director David Yates is also in consideration to helm the project. Darren Aronofsky was rumoured to be in line to direct but he may be busy getting his passion project, ‘Noah’ up and running. Tim Burton who was previously attached to direct dropped out of the project earlier this year.

Talking to THR, Russell also revealed his reasons for departing the big screen adaptation of the video game ‘Uncharted : Drake’s Fortune,’ saying that he left due to creative differences with Sony. The studio didn’t like his script.

“What can I say, I waded into those waters of the tentpole movies, and I wrote what I wanted to write, and I feel like I wrote my vision. And the rest is up to those guys. I can’t pick for those guys. I don’t know what they want to do over there. It’s just a parting of the ways creatively.”
