Scarlett Johansson to Lead New Take on BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN

Oscar-winning filmmaker Sebastián Lelio (‘A Fantastic Woman,’ ‘Gloria’) is to take the helm for ‘Bride,’ a genre-bending take on James Whale ‘Bride of Frankenstein,’ with Scarlett Johansson attached to star.

Per THR, the logline reads: “a woman created to be an ideal wife— the singular obsession of a brilliant entrepreneur— rejects her creator, and is forced to flee her confined existence, confronting a world that sees her as a monster. It is on the run that she finds her true identity, her surprising power, and the strength to remake herself as her own creation.”

The script for the project comes from Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, , who wrote for Netflix’s ‘Orange is the New Black’ and the upcoming Ryan Gosling-led ‘Wolfman.’

Johansson will also serve as producer alongside Jonathan Lia through their These Pictures banner, with Keenan Flynn co-producing.

“It is long overdue for Bride to step out of the shadow of her male counterpart and stand alone,” said Johansson. “Working alongside Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum, Sebastian and I are extremely excited to emancipate this classic anti-heroine and reanimate her story to reflect the change we see today.”
