Grease Youve seen the movie Here comes the musical

We talk movies with Danny Bayne, the star of new musical Grease, which hits Dublin this month.

Q: What can you tell us about this new tour of Grease?
A: The show is on tour in the UK & Ireland for the first time in over 5 years- direct from a fantastic 4 year run in London’s West End! It’s young, energetic and fun- an all-time favourite and the ultimate feel-good, pick me up musical!

Q. How does it feel to be reprising your role as Danny in Grease for the tour?
A: Fantastic, having the best time ever with a great cast!

Q: Are you a fan of the original 1978 John Travolta/Olivia Newton John movie?
A: Yes, absolutely! I love the simplicity of the story and the music. I was very young (about 6) when I first saw the film- and have been a big fan of Grease ever since!

Q: How does the musical production differ from the movie version?
A: It’s different in parts but still with the great tunes and songs that everyone knows and loves and the same loveable story.

Q. What’s your favourite song from the movie/musical production and why?
A: Greased Lightnin’- because it rocks!

Q: Have you ever seen the movie sequel, Grease 2? What are your thoughts on that?
A: Yes, very good but nowhere near the same cult status as the original.

Q: How did it feel to put on the iconic Grease clothes for the first time? That leather jacket? The famous quiff?
A: Amazing! It’s a great feeling to represent someone so iconic!

Q: Why do you think Grease is still as popular today as when it first came out?
A: The simple love story and the great music- something that people of all ages can relate to and enjoy!

Q: Tell us about the last movie you saw? (either in cinema, video, DVD or TV)
A: The Lincoln Lawyer and Brighton Rock- both great movies with terrific acting.

Q: What is your favourite Irish movie and why?
A: In Bruges. Maybe not Irish but great Irish leads- and very, very funny!

Q: What is your favourite movie of all time?
A: The King of Comedy- Robert De Niro

Q: What movie could you never sit through again? (How come?)
A: Bruno. I love Sacha Baron Cohen but that was just terrible.

Q: Have you ever cried during a movie? Which one?
A: Yes- the Green Mile, The Notebook, A Walk to Remember…need I go on?!

Q: The First Movie You Ever Saw In A Cinema?
A: Oops- The Spice Girls Movie (ha ha!)

Q: What Movie Do You Wish They’d Make A Sequel To?
A: Porky’s- I’ve seen one and two. Would love to see an up to date 3rd!
