Writers strike ends

After a three month dispute between the Writer’s Guild of America and major media companies, an agreement has been reached. Today, the WGA is reported to have sent out an email to its members stating, “We have a tentative deal. It is an agreement that protects a future in which the Internet becomes the primary means of both content creation and delivery.” The deal will however need to be approved by the Guild’s board and ratified by the union’s members before the strike can officially come to an end. The strike, which centred on royalties for the writers, saw several major shows taken off the air and this year’s Golden Globes ceremony cancelled.
