Check out Synder’s nod to Steven Spielberg.
Ok, strange as it may sound, it seems Zack Snyder has gone for an early Easter Egg with his first (and may I add awesome) Watchmen trailer.
You can check out our breakdown of the Watchmen trailer here, but below you’ll notice a guy is holding a walkie-talkie instead of the gun he’s seen holding in the subsequent shots of the scene (for the whole thing, head to around the 1:30 mark of the trailer).
According to Zack Snyder, the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) wouldn’t allow the gun to feature in this shot because there’s a rule against guns pointed out at the audience (in ads only).
So Snyder decided to give a knowing-nod to Steven Spielberg’s 2002 re-release version of E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, which saw the removal of all guns – substituted instead with walkies (cause communication is the real solution – how after school special Steven…)
Check it out in the picture below; we don’t expect this to remain in the final movie, which opens March, 2009.
