‘Edge of Tomorrow’ star wanted for modern-day pirate actioner…
Tom Cruise has been offered the lead role in ‘South China Sea,’ the next offering from Swedish helming team of Mans Marlind & Bjorn Stein (‘Underworld: Awakening,’ ‘Shed No Tears’), says Deadline.
Described as ‘Fast & Furious’ set on water, the film is “a contemporary story of a legendary American pirate who was imprisoned in Hong Kong by his nemesis, a female police lieutenant. She shows up to set him free, with a condition: he must help her take down a formidable pirate gang plaguing shipping lanes across the South China Sea. He has more incentive than freedom; he might have a chance to save his estranged son, who is in the centre of things.”
The screenplay comes from Kerry Williamson, with rewrites by Michael Stokes.
Andrew Gunn is producing with Avi Lerner and his Millennium Films partners Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson, John Thompson and Mark Gill serving as executive producers.
