The adaptation of the 70’s TV show is seeking bigger stars to give it international appeal
The movie adaptation of the 70’s TV show ‘The Sweeney’ has had its production delayed. The UK show which starred John Thaw and Dennis Waterman aired on TV from 1975 to 1978 and aired two theatrically-released feature film spin-offs, ‘Sweeney!’ and ‘Sweeney 2’
The new version originally scheduled for 2009 with a budget of $16 million has Ray Winstone lined up to play lead character Jack Regan. Winstone while not a household name certainly has a rising profile after his recent appearance in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. However producers are now delaying the production so they can attract bigger stars to the film to help sell it to audiences outside of the UK and Ireland.
