Filmmaker selects his next project.
With his ‘Robopocalypse’ adaptation on hold for the foreseeable future, Steven Spielberg has some time on his hand but that is all about to change as THR is reporting that the legendary filmmaker has put pen to paper and has signed on to direct ‘American Sniper,’ a Navy SEAL drama based on the autobiography of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle.
The bestselling book, whose complete title is ‘American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History,’ recounts how the Texas native came to record the highest number of sniper kills for an American.
Bradley Cooper is attached to portray Kyle who, along with companion Chad Littlefield, was shot and killed at a shooting range by a fellow vet in February. The ‘Hangover’ star has been developing the project via his Warner Bros. based production company 22nd & Indiana. Jason Hall (‘Spread’), who wrote the script, is serving as executive producer.
Production is expected to kick off early next year.
