Steven Spielberg Planning Alien Invasion Drama THE FALL

Amblin Entertainment are looking to get back into the alien invasion genre, with Deadline bringing word that Steven Spielberg’s production company has closed a deal for ‘The Fall.’

Based on a spec script by Australian writer Pete Bridges, the story takes place in the midst of an alien invasion where “a freshly divorced couple must survive a dangerous real-time journey on foot from downtown Atlanta, Georgia to the suburbs, where their young children are home alone.”

‘The Fall’ is Bridges’ second high-concept spec to get picked up; his script for ‘Resurface’ made the Black List of unproduced screenplay last year and was snapped up by Todd Garner’s Broken Road Productions.

Described as ‘Gravity’ set underwater, ‘Resurface’ is a thriller where an underwater earthquake decimates a research crew working at the bottom of the Mariana Trench, leaving two survivors with limited resources to ascend 35,000 feet and reach the surface before their life support runs out. The Martian or Gravity set underwater.
