SINNERS – Interview with actor Delroy Lindow

Delroy Lindo is one of those rare actors whose presence commands attention—on stage, on screen, and in every genre he touches. Born in Lewisham, London in 1952 to Jamaican parents, Lindo’s journey to stardom has been anything but conventional.

Lindo’s early years were spent on the stage, earning a Tony nomination for his performance in August Wilson’s Joe Turner’s Come and Gone in 1988. But it was Spike Lee who gave Lindo his cinematic breakthrough, casting him in a string of unforgettable roles: the tragic West Indian Archie in Malcolm X, the warm-hearted patriarch Woody Carmichael in Crooklyn, and the menacing Rodney Little in Clockers. These performances showcased Lindo’s uncanny ability to bring depth and humanity to both heroes and villains.

With a career spanning five decades, Delroy Lindo remains a force of nature—an actor who brings intelligence, soul, and a touch of danger to every role.

In his latest movie SINNERS, Lindo plays Delta Slim, a role that’s already drawing critical buzz for its depth and soul. Set in 1930’s Mississippi, the film follows twin brothers Smoke and Stack (both played by Michael B. Jordan) as they return home to rebuild their lives, only to awaken a supernatural evil rooted in the region’s history and trauma.

Lindo’s Delta Slim is the town’s elder bluesman, a character who embodies the wisdom, pain, and resilience of the Delta’s Black community. We caught up with the actor to find out more…
