Moira MacTaggert will return…
Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen may not be returning for the next outing of the ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ but the superhero sequel will see the return of one familiar face. ‘Bridesmaids’ star Rose Byrne has been confirmed to be reprising her role as CIA agent Moira MacTaggert from ‘X-Men: First Class.’
With Bryan Singer once again directing, the sequel is set a decade after the events of ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ and sees the younger generation of mutants facing off against their most formidable foe yet – En Sabah Nur aka Apocalypse (played by Oscar Issac).
James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult are all set to return for the next outing, joined by newcomers Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, and Alexandra Shipp as the younger incarnations of Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Storm.
Confirming the return of Moira MacTaggert, ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ screenwriter Simon Kinberg told EW, “She’s a significant character in the movie. We ended First Class with Charles having wiped portions of her memory of her experience with the X-Men. They are, essentially, strangers to her when she meets them.”
Kinberg also revealed that the sequel will serve as an endpoint for the main cast from ‘X-Men: First Class.’
“This movie is the completion of the first arcs of Charles, Eric, Raven, and Hank, who are essentially our main characters,” he explains. “They’re such young actors and young characters, so there’s a lot more story to tell. But as a first phase of their lives, there is this feeling of closure by the end of the movie.”
