McGregor and Wood set for Marina Nemat biopic.
Ewan McGregor (‘Beginners’) and Evan Rachel Wood (‘The Ides of March’) are in talks to star in ‘Prisoner of Tehran,’ according to Moviehole.
With Canadian filmmaker Kari Skogland (‘Boardwalk Empire,’ ‘Fifty Dead Men Walking’) in the director’s chair, the drama is based on the best-selling book by Marina Nemat and is the true story of a young, Christian girl in Iran during the early days of Ayatollah Khomeini’s brutal Islamic Republic.
In 1982 after being arrested for leading a protest against the requirement to study the Koran, a 16- Marina was sentenced to death at the infamous Evin prison. Salvation came for Marina in the form of Ali, a young guard fell in love with her. He believed her innocence and warned her that the only way to save her and her family from death was to marry him and convert to Islam.
