New director hired for sequel.
Just over a year ago it was announced that a sequel to writer/director Gareth Edwards’ ‘Monsters’ was in development with commercial helmers Brent Bonacorso and Jesse Atlas directing. Now, according to Screen Daily, a new director has been tapped to take the directing reigns, Tom Green.
Green, unrelated to the wacky Canadian comedian, has directed various episodes of the cult British superhero series ‘Misfits’ and the short ‘Brixton ’85.’ He is also attached to direct as-yet-untitled film set against the band’s seminal Spike Island gig in 1990.
Released in 2010, ‘Monsters’ concerned a couple trying to escape Central America, which had been quarantined due to an invasion of alien creatures.
The new film, currently titled ‘Monsters: Dark Continent,’ was penned by Jay Basu (‘Fast Girls’) and will introduce a teacher living in a protected walled city, who enters the infected zone of the city to track down his long-lost brother, a former military man who is now a “Col. Kurtz-esque figure.”
