Colter Set as Luke Cage…
Mike Colter (‘Halo: Nightfall,’ ‘Zero Dark Thirty,’ ‘Million Dollar Baby’) is confirmed to be playing Luke Cage in Marvel and Netflix’s ‘A.K.A. Jessica Jones,’ opposite Krysten Ritter in the title role.
After a tragic ending to her short-lived Super Hero stint, Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a private investigator who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.
During the course of an investigation in New York City, Jones encounters the enigmatic Luke Cage – a man whose past has secrets that will dramatically alter Jessica in ways she could never have imagined.
“Mike embodies the strength, edge and depth of Luke Cage,” said Executive Producer/Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg. “We’re excited to have him bring this iconic Marvel character to life.” “Fans have longed to see Luke Cage and in Mike we’ve found the perfect actor,” said Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvel’s Head of Television. “Viewers will get to meet Luke Cage in ‘Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones,’ and experience why he is such an important super hero in the Marvel mythos.”
Colter will eventually lead his own show, before teaming up with Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, Ritter’s Jones and the yet uncast Iron Fist for the Defenders crossover event.
Luke Cage (also called Power Man) was created by Archie Goodwin and John Romita, Sr., and debuted in his own series, ‘Luke Cage, Hero for Hire’ in 1972. Cage’s adventures were set in a grungier, more crime-dominated New York City than that inhabited by other Marvel superheroes of the time. During his long history, he has fought alongside the likes of Iron Fist, Defenders, Thunderbolts, and The Avengers.
