And two more join the romantic drama.
Keira Knightley (‘Seeking a Friend for the End of the World’) has replaced Scarlett Johansson (‘Avengers Assemble’) as the female lead on Irish writer-director John Carney’s music-oriented romantic drama ‘Can a Song Save Your Life?’
As previously reported, the film is set in New York and follows Gretta, a young woman who moves to New York to pursue her dream of music. When her boyfriend dumps her she is left heartbroken and all alone. Her world takes a turn for the better when a dejected A&R man (played by Mark Ruffalo) stumbles upon her singing in a local bar and is immediately captivated by her raw talent and inspiring authenticity. The two realise that they may be each other’s last chance to turn their lives around.
Catherine Keener (‘The Oranges’) has also joined the cast and will play the estranged wife of Ruffalo’s down-on-his-luck character. Hailee Steinfield (‘True Grit’), James Corden (‘The History Boys’) and Maroon 5’s frontman Adam Levine also star.
Production kicks off in the coming weeks with Judd Apatow (‘Bridesmaids,’ ‘Knocked Up,’ ‘Superbad’) and Anthony Bregman (‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,’ ‘Our Idiot Brother’) producing.
