‘Star Trek’ and ‘Dredd’ star Karl Urban and young actress Willow Shield (‘The Hunger Games’) have been cast in the family-oriented 3D action adventure film ‘The Wonder 3D.’
Based on a script by Ashley and Robert Sidaway, the film follows 14-year-old Rachel (played by Shields) who, along with two of her classmates, follow a rainbow that magically transports them to China, where they find themselves pursued by a mysterious organization as well as the cause of a major natural disaster.
Urban will be playing Consul William Stanley, who helps the kids evade their pursers, while the kids also discover that their journey has set a natural disaster in motion. Chinese actor Leehom Wang (‘The Annihilator,’ ‘Lust, Caution’) is on board to co-star.
Production is scheduled for March 2014 with filming to take place in New Zealand and China under the direction of Peter Hewitt (‘The Borrowers,’ ‘The Maiden Heist’).
