Cornish first choice for King Kong reboot…
Mike Fleming over Deadline is hearing word that Legendary Pictures is looking to tap ‘Attack the Block’ writer-director Joe Cornish to take the helm of its newly announced King Kong movie ‘Skull Island.’
The project, announced over the weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, was penned by Max Borenstein (‘Seventh Son,’ ‘Godzilla’) and tells the origins of the giant ape.
Previous films have touched on the famed island but this new film will stay and explore the “mysterious and dangerous place”, offering “the opportunity to take audiences deeper inside this rich world with a style and scope that parallels other Legendary productions.”
‘Skull Island’ is pencilled in for a November 2016 release.
Fleming states that that while Legendary has offered Cornish the gig, there is no indication yet as to whether he’ll take it.
