Aussie actresses eyeing Elmore Leonard adaptation.
Isla Fisher (‘Bachelorette’) is said to be in talks to join John Hawkes (‘The Sessions’), Yasiin Bey (aka rapper turned actor Mos Def), Jennifer Aniston (‘Horrible Bosses’) and Ty Burrell (‘Modern Family’) on the cast of writer-director Dan Schechter’s ‘Switch.’
An adaptation of Elmore Leonard’s 1978 novel ‘The Switch,’ the crime drama is a prequel of sorts to Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown, and sees Hawkes and Bey playing younger versions of Robert De Niro and Samuel L. Jackson’s respective characters Louis Gara and Ordell Robbie.
Set 15 years before ‘Jackie Brown,’ the ‘Ruthless People’-esque tale follows career criminals Gara and Robbie as they team up to kidnap the wife (Aniston) of a corrupt Detroit developer and collect some easy ransom money. When the bum of a husband refuses to pay the ransom for his wife’s return, the ex-cons are forced to rethink their plan, and the angry housewife uses the duo to get her revenge.
According to Variety, Fisher is eyeing the role of Melanie, the same character played by Bridget Fonda in ‘Jackie Brown.’ Dennis Quaid was attached to co-star but was forced to exit due to scheduling conflicts with his period crime drama series ‘Vegas.’
