British actor Dan Stevens (‘Colossal,’ ‘The Ticket,’ ‘The Guest’) has been tapped to lead the period revenge thriller ‘Apostle,’ Variety has learned.
The story follows a man who travels to a remote island and attempts to rescue his sister after she’s kidnapped by a religious cult. The group demands a ransom for the sister’s return, undermining the man’s resolve to rescue her.
‘The Raid’ helmer Gareth Evans is behind the camera for the project, directing from his own script. XYZ Films, Severn Screen and One More One Productions are producing. The producers are aiming to get cameras rolling in March.
Evans will next be seen in the ‘X-Men’ spin-off TV series ‘Legion,’ followed by Disney’s live-action adaptation of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ co-starring Emma Watson.
