Wood to star and produce the comedy horror.
It has been announced that Elijah Wood (‘Maniac,’ ‘The Hobbit,’ ‘Wilfred’) has attached himself to the horror comedy ‘Cooties,’ with plans to produce and star.
Written by ‘Saw’ and ‘Insidious’ co-creator Leigh Whannell and Ian Brennan, the film begins when a mysterious virus hits an isolated elementary school, transforming the pre-adolescent children into a feral swarm of mindless savages.
Wood will be playing an unlikely hero must lead a motley band of teachers in the fight of their lives against the monstrous pupils.
Commenting on the announcement, Whannell said, “My friend Ian Brennan and I wanted to write a film about one of life’s most universal experiences – hatred for precocious, adorable children. And so we started work on ‘Cooties,’ a film about a virus that turns school children into monsters and therefore makes it okay to beat them up with hockey sticks.”
Music video and commercial director Ace Norton is in the director’s seat. Filming is set for April 2013, with Wood producing through his new horror banner, The Woodshed. Whannell and Brennan will serve as executive producers.
