‘The Rock’ enlists for beach patrol…
THR has exclusively learned that ‘Hercules’ star Dwayne Johnson is set to lead Paramount’s feature film adaptation of cheesy ’90s TV series ‘Baywatch.’
Justin Malen (‘Bad Teacher 2,’ ‘Trophy Wife’) is on board to pen the script, with ‘We’re The Millers’ duo Sean Anders and John Morris behind the camera.
Producers include Ivan Reitman and his Montecito Pictures Company, and Contrafilm partners Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson.
The big screen outing of the popular series has been in development since 2009, and has seen a number of writers and directors come and go. As THR mentions, a previous treatment of the script had the action revolving around “a series of shark attacks that led the Baywatch team to investigate a drug-smuggling operation.” It is unknown at this time what Malen’s take will be.
