Will lead the dystopian tale opposite Jeff Bridges.
According to Deadline, Australian actor Brenton Thwaites (‘Maleficent,’ ‘Blue Lagoon: The Awakening,’ ‘Home and Away’) has nabbed the lead alongside Jeff Bridges in the big screen adaptation of Lois Lowry’s young adult novel ‘The Giver.’
With Phillip Noyce (‘Salt,’ ‘The Bone Collector’) in the director’s chair, the dystopian tale is set in a society in which all memory of human history has been erased, emotion does not exist and citizens have their professions chosen for them. The fantasy tale follows young Jonas, whose life is thrown into turmoil when he is designated to inherit the role of the Giver and bear his community’s vast range of human emotions, which causes him to realize that living a pain-free life comes at a high cost.
Thwaites will be taking the role of Jonas, with the character aged up from the book.
Production is gearing up for an autumn start in South Africa with Bridges producing with Nicky Silver and Harvey Weinstein, Dylan Sellers and Julie Rapaport.
