DreamWorks Animation sets voice cast for its hand-drawn/CGI hybrid.
THR reports that Bill Hader (‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,’ ‘Saturday Night Live’) and Josh Gad (‘The Book of Mormon,’ ‘Love and Other Drugs’) have signed up to voice Dreamworks Animation’s ‘Me & My Shadow.’
The animated fantasy will be the directorial debut of Alessandro Carloni, who served as head of story on Dreamworks Animation’s Oscar nominated ‘How to Train Your Dragon.’ The story centers on Stan, “a shadow (Hader) who yearns for a more exciting life than being attached to a timid human named Stanley Grubb (Gad). When a crime in the shadow community puts both of their lives in danger, Stan is forced to take control of Stanley, thrusting both of them into an adventure featuring a shadowy villain, who intends to lead a rebellion to take over the human world.
Kate Hudson (‘Almost Famous’) is also on board and will voice Grubb’s potential love interest in the real world.
Conceived in-house as an original film, ‘Me & My Shadow’ will be a mix of CG and traditional animation. The shadow World will be hand-drawn, while the human world will be CG.
Scribes Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember will pen the screenplay based on an original draft from Steve Bencich and Ron J. Friedman. Jeff Hermann is co-producing with Melissa Cobb.
