Anthony Mackie Circles Role in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER

Mackie would be playing Falcon.

Word has emerged that Anthony Mackie (‘Pain & Gain,’ ‘Gangster Squad,’ ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.’) is in negotiations with Marvel to join Chris Evans on the cast of ‘Captatin America: The Winter Soldier.’

While Marvel is keeping plot details firmly under wraps, the sequel’s subtitle would suggest that the film will feature the return of Cap’s sidekick, Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), as a brain-washed super assassin known as the Winter Solider.

According to THR, Mackie is eyeing the role of Sam Wilson aka Falcon, Marvel’s first African-American superheroes. The character, created by Stan Lee and Gene Colan in 1969, first appeared in Captain America #117 and served as Cap’s crime-fighting partner on many adventures. Wilson derives his powers from his suit which allows him to fly and enhances his strength. He also has the ability to telepathically communicate with birds.

‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ will be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo (‘Community,’ ‘Happy Endings’) from a script by Stephen McFeely (‘Pain & Gain,’ ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’).
