Horror comedy fills outs supporting cast as filming gets underway.
Deadline has learned that Alison Pill (‘Goon’), Rainn Wilson (‘Super’), Leigh Whannell (‘Insidious’), Jack McBrayer (‘Wreck it Ralph’), Jorgé Garcia (‘Lost’), and Nasim Pedrad (‘Saturday Night Live’) are set to join Elijah Wood (‘Maniac,’ ‘The Hobbit,’ ‘Wilfred’) on the cast of the horror comedy ‘Cooties.’
Scripted by ‘Saw’ and ‘Insidious’ co-creator Whannell and ‘Glee’ co-creator Ian Brennan, the film centres on an isolated elementary school that becomes infected with a mysterious virus, turning the innocent children into savage, feral creatures. Wood’s protagonist must lead a motley band of teachers in the fight of their lives against the monstrous pupils.
Pill will be playing Lucy, an eternally optimistic 4th grade teacher, while Wilson is set for the role of Wade, an ex-athlete turned PE teacher.
Filming is set to begin this week in Los Angeles with Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott directing. In addition to toplining, Wood will also serve as producer alongside SpectreVision partners Daniel Noah and Josh C. Waller, with Steven Schneider (‘Paranormal Activity’) and Glacier Films’ Tove Christensen and Georgy Malkov also producing.
