INSURGENT hits Irish cinemas this week, and picks up Tris Prior’s tale where DIVERGENT left off. As the second part in this thrilling adventure series, based on the books by Veronica Roth, INSURGENT is shaping up to be a lot of fun. Movies.ie have gathered together 10 things you need to know before heading to the cinema for INSURGENT…
1. Second Time Around
INSURGENT is the first sequel Kate Winslet has ever done.
2. Hair Cut
Although Tris cuts her hair in the INSURGENT book, it is not as short as Shailene Woodley’s in the film. After cutting her hair for THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, Woodley chose not to wear a wig for INSURGENT.
3. Family Ties
Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort play sister and brother in INSURGENT. They played young lovers in THE FAULT IN OUR STARS
4. Double Jobbing
Several of the actors were working on other films at the same time as INSURGENT. Miles Teller filmed FANTASTIC FOUR, Jai Courtney filmed TERMINATOR GENISYS and Kate Winslet filmed TRIPLE 9.
5. Change
DIVERGENT director Neil Burger did not return to direct INSURGENT as he was finishing work on the first film when shooting for the second started. He was replaced by RIPD and RED director Robert Schwentke.
6. Name Check
Jonny Weston plays Edgar in INSURGENT. This character is not in the books, he was created after Ben Lamb, who played Edward, left the franchise. Essentially, Edward and Edgar are the same character, but played by different actors, and renamed.
7. Reunited
Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller have now worked on three films together; DIVERGENT, THE SPECTACULAR NOW and INSURGENT.
8. Holes in the Sky
Although the soundtrack for INSURGENT is more score based than DIVERGENT, M83 featuring Haim provided the song Holes in the Sky for the film. The song was released as a single on March 2nd, 2015.
9. 3D
INSURGENT, unlike its predecessor, is being released in 3D. INSURGENT is also being released in IMAX, which DIVERGENT was also.
10. When Can I See It?
INSURGENT is released in Irish cinemas on March 19th, 2015
